Olivia Barad is a definite talent to watch. I am so proud to welcome her as a makeup expert on the Tricia Mitchell Media team. This Canadian-American has a dexterous touch as a make-up artist and a fashion photographer. While both are creative pursuits, Olivia’s striking looks would be welcomed in front of any camera.
She graduated from Parson School Of Design with a bachelor of fine arts. She majored in photography and interned at Vogue magazine where they saw her exquisite potential. Her work has been featured in Vogue, and Teen Vogue, to name a few. Her sexy natural approach to photography and professional attitude really make you feel her energy when looking at her photos.
If this was not enough, she is also a world class make-up artist. Olivia has been truly inspired by some of the greats in the business like Charlotte Tilbury, Dick Paige, Hung Vanngo, and Wendy Rowe . Her ability to make you look like you’re not wearing make-up, while looking absolutely flawless is her speciality. She can bring your eyes out with the perfect shade of eyeshadow so you’re the only one people see when you walk into a room. I predict an Olivia Barad make-up line somewhere in the near future.
She has worked on several celebrities like Priyanka Bose, who costars in the new movie Lion, (The Weinstein Company) alongside Nicole Kidman. Oliva's clientele includes Lanvin along with
featured editorials in several magazines like Schon, Harold and Bon Bon.
I asked this young phenom about the hottest trends of the moment. Barad explained, "Some of the biggest trends right now in makeup are glitter, blush draping (which is basically sculpting the face using blush as opposed to contour) strobing dark lips and very natural fresh skin. It's not about having a cake face. The skin should look extremely healthy, dewy and natural".
I think this is info every woman needs to know. Olivia's top picks for making a woman dazzle are:
“I love the face powder. It is extremely finely milled so it looks incredibly natural and undetectable on the skin.
"Her lipsticks are amazing. They are moisturizing but also last a very long time and the colour range is stunning. I suggest Kim KW for light skin tones, Sexy Sienna for medium skin tones and Velvet Underground for darker skin tones"
“I love the eyeshadows, specifically the shades Pale Barley and Rosewood... They are so soft and easy to blend they work with all skin tones but in different ways . On light skin tones they create a wearable smokey effect, while on darker skin tones they create a less intense, light wash of colour."
“The bronzers are also amazing and so underrated! They give a very realistic tan to the skin.”
“The contour sticks are another standout product... very realistic tones and very easy to blend. There are two versatile shades in the collection that are excellent for light and medium skin tones”
Important Note “On darker skin I prefer a technique called reverse contouring....this involves focusing on the highlights of the face rather than shadows to sculpt the face. My product recommendation is the MAKEUP FOREVER sculpting palette in the darkest shade #50.”
“RMS is a natural, organic make-up brand, developed by makeup artist extraordinaire Rose-Marie Swift. The Living Luminizer is AMAZING... hands down best highlighter I have ever used and I've used a lot!”
Hey Guys! Don't feel left out. Olivia also specializes in Men's Grooming and can make you look like a star too. Just ask Jarret Kennedy. It was Olivia who groomed him for the cover of Harold Magazine and I must say he is not looking too shabby at all. Olivia also worked on the ad campaign for Toronto Mens Fashion Week inspired by the Beatles .
I was lucky enough to become one of her personal clients and I know with confidence that I will look the part every time when she does my make-up. Her ability to work perfectly on any skin tone makes me so proud and excited to be working with her. Look out for tips from Olivia or write in with your questions and book her if you can while she is still taking on new clients. Craving that flawless look? Olivia Barad, beauty refined!
